Bio:
Born and raised in Detroit, I have a strong family historical connection to the city. My early years were unavoidably shaped by the turmoil of the inner city. My current focus deals with transformation and reconfiguration of quotidian images. I use popular culture to discuss the spaces between the multi-meanings of such images and the transference of our experiences on to those meanings. My paintings reference the motel postcard, the ubiquitous souvenir of the family road trip. This simple token nevertheless represents an accumulation of memories and experiences. These essentially promotional items encapsulate the American vacation, the summer escape that isnt really an escape at all.
